Material Manifesto

A deep dive into queer textile history and fashion,
specifically those of queer women and lesbians.
Clothing and style choices can communicate to others about identity, values, politics or alliances within the lesbian community. For lesbians, fashion can be a way to visually code their identity, challenging traditional norms or conveying a sense of solidarity. The phrase “material manifesto” implies that fashion choices can be seen as a physical, tangible declaration or statement. Fashion can become a form of activism, what you wear can be a physical embodiment of your values, a public expression of identity, and even a call to action or resistance.
